Educational Objectives

It is necessary for physicians to be kept abreast of new and constantly changing techniques and technologies in medicine in order to facilitate improved patient care.

The June 2026 Pacific Coast Oto-Ophthalmological Society (PCOOS) program is intended to provide practicing ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists with an annual update across the various subspecialties of ophthalmology and otolaryngology.

Speakers will provide clinical and evidence-based updates in a setting conducive to learning. Didactic lectures and case presentations will reinforce best practice management strategies.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants are expected to improve their ability to:

  • Incorporate new techniques, medical therapies, diagnostic tests, and procedures in the management and treatment of ophthalmology and otolaryngology patients to improve quality of care
  • Integrate best available evidence and recent clinical research into patient assessment and treatment approaches
  • Improve clinical confidence through application of recent advances in ophthalmology and otolaryngology
  • Recognize current clinical controversies in ophthalmologic and otolaryngologic care and critically evaluate emerging evidence
  • Enhance ability to consult with colleagues and patients regarding evolving treatments, including new devices, technologies, and pharmaceuticals

Disclosure & Conflict of Interest Policy

As a provider accredited by ACCME and CMA, the Pacific Coast Oto-Ophthalmological Society (PCOOS) ensures balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all sponsored educational activities. PCOOS adheres to the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support: Standards to Ensure Independence of CME Activities (effective September 2004).

Disclosure Review Process

Upon receipt of each disclosure form, the Program Chair and the Executive Secretary-Treasurer review both the disclosure form and the program “Call” to determine whether any personal conflicts of interest exist.

For individuals identified with a personal conflict of interest:

  • The Program Chair and Executive Secretary-Treasurer evaluate the conflict in relation to the individual’s role.
  • Appropriate steps are taken to resolve the conflict of interest.
  • A speaker may be required to present an alternate lecture topic that does not present a conflict.

Alternate Oversight Procedures

If a conflict of interest involves key leadership roles, the following substitutions apply:

  • If the Program Chair or Program Committee members have a conflict, the Executive Secretary-Treasurer and the President assume responsibility.
  • If the Executive Secretary-Treasurer has a conflict, the President and the Program Chair assume responsibility.

Learner Disclosure

For each presentation in the program, learners are asked to:

  • Indicate on the evaluation instrument whether they observed any conflict of interest
  • Provide comments regarding any perceived conflict
